Plums and damson plums are two distincts fruits; Damson plums are smaller and more oval/ elongated shape with a bluish-black or dark purple, powdered-like skin. The distinct acidity and tangy flavour of damson plums grows stronger as they ripen.
Damson plums are very high in vitamin C and riboflavin, as well as dietary fibre but their real value comes in their minerals, including significant levels of potassium, phosphorous, copper, manganese and magnesium. The Sorbitol Damson plums contain is said to promote dental health, ease stomach ache, and serve as one of the best sweeteners for people with diabetes.
